Display Height Legend

Display Height Legend

The Display Height Legend tool opens a color key when the view is in Color by Height mode, and when you use the Height Palette Editor to set the colors in the view. To open the Height Legend, ensure the Color by Height toolbar button is the only Color by option that is enabled, then select Tools > Display Height Legend from the Toolbox.

If the Height Palette Editor is open, you must first click OK in it to apply the color palette and close the dialog before you can open the Height Legend.

  • If you opened the Height Legend in Color By Height mode and did not edit the color palette, then the Height Legend corresponds to the View Extents (the horizontal extents within the magenta rectangle in the Navigate window).
  • The Height Legend window title is either View Extents or Full Extents, depending on the Color Range selected in the Height Palette Editor dialog.
  • The tips of the Height Legend color bar will be tapered depending on the following settings in the Height Palette Editor dialog:
  • The top and bottom tips will be tapered if the View Extents radio button and the Clip View Extents (top 1%, bottom 1%) check box are enabled.
  • The bottom tip will be tapered if the Minimum value is greater than 0.0 (for View Extents), or is greater than the minimum height of the project (for Full Extents).
  • The top tip will be tapered if the Maximum value is less than 1.0 (for View Extents), or is less than the maximum height of the project (for Full Extents).
  • The height values on the Height Legend display in tenths of a meter.
  • If the Smooth Color Transition check box is enabled in the Height Palette Editor dialog, the color transition in the Height Legend color bar is smooth. If the check box is not enabled, the colors are discrete.
  • The Height Legend window moves to the back of the display when you reopen the Height Palette Editor. To bring it to the front again, select it from the task bar after you click OK in Height Palette Editor dialog.
  • Click the Refresh button in the Height Legend to update the key if you change the stretch type or other settings in the Height Palette Editor.
  • For Full Extents, the Minimum and Maximum values set in the Height Palette Editor are the minimum and maximum values displayed for the Height Legend range.
  • For View Extents, the Minimum and Maximum values in the Height Palette Editor that are normalized to values between 0 and 1 are translated to actual height values associated with the data in the Height Legend, as with Full Extents mode.
