FlexNet Licensing: Using licenses belonging to two different companies/accounts on the same computer

This article applies to the new licensing technology implemented in Harris Geospatial Solutions products, beginning with IDL 8.6 and ENVI 5.4.

1.     Harris product licenses belonging to two different companies/accounts cannot all be activated as "node-locked" (local) on a single computer.  Similarly, licenses belonging to 2 different accounts cannot all be activated to the same FlexNet License Server.

Error messages encountered when attempting to activate conflicting license information of this type may look  similar to the following for node-locked licensing:

For Served licenses, the error message may look like:

2.     However, you can activate licenses belonging to one company as Node-Locked, and then also activate licenses belonging to a different company to a License Server on that same computer.

3.     Additionally, licenses belonging to two different companies can be used by the same IDL/ENVI session.  To do this, the following is necessary:

 

a.     ALL of the licenses from the first company, used on the computer, are all activated as Node-Locked licenses.

b.    ALL of the licenses from the second company, used on that that same computer, are accessed as a Client from a License Server.
