TrueTerrain™ from L3Harris makes the virtual world more realistic

Seamless Mosaics

L3Harris Geospatial experts frequently merge multiple sources of imagery together to provide customized coverage of an area. The resulting product is a seamless, color-balanced, tonally-balanced, georeferenced or orthorectified image file ready for use in any mapping or imaging software.

Pan Sharpening

The high-resolution panchromatic band is merged with the corresponding coarser resolution multispectral bands to create a high resolution color image. Spatial detail of the panchromatic source is retained while preserving radiometric characteristics of the multispectral source.

Contrast and Color Balancing

There are many environmental factors or atmospheric conditions that can affect the quality of imagery captured via satellite. Haze, fog, glare, and pollution, are examples of conditions which can obscure the imagery between the sensor and the ground. L3Harris Geospatial routinely balances the color bands and tones of satellite imagery to correct for these interferences to create the best of every image band and delivery the clearest and most aesthetically-pleasing imagery.

Orthorectification

Orthorectification corrects terrain displacement in imagery caused by off nadir or “sensor tilt” effects during image capture. This improves the positional accuracy of the imagery and allows users to overlay their current working data with recently acquired satellite imagery for correct alignment.

Cloud Patching

Satellites orbit well above our atmosphere allowing for the possibility that clouds will appear within the captured imagery. Using multiple overlapping scenes and advanced cutline processing, we can seamlessly patch areas of satellite imagery containing clouds with other cloud-free imagery of the same area, revealing more land surface in the final data.

Multi-resolution Blended Imagery

Multiple sources of varying resolutions can be used to create a custom Multi-resolution dataset over a large area. High-resolution insets of areas of interest are blended to lower resolutions in the surrounding areas, resulting in seamless, large-scale coverage.

TrueTerrain nBand

TrueTerrain™ nBand Orthomosaic products are custom built multiband datasets created using L3Harris’ proprietary technology and constructed from the best available archived or newly acquired imagery from RapidEye, Sentinel-2, or Landsat 7-8 sensors.

  • nBand Orthomosaics from Planetscope sensors have 4 multispectral bands: Blue, Green, Red, NIR
  • nBand Orthomosaics from Sentinel-2 sensors have 4 multispectral bands: Blue, Green, Red, NIR

Realistic Visualizations for Planning and Analysis

3D BUILDING MODELS

3D buildings are extracted from stereo and pseudo stereo data and can range in detail from simple to complex geometries depending on image resolution and customer need.

  • Geospecific textures derived from the imagery can be applied to the buildings where available.
  • Building heights are derived photogrammetrically, resulting in accurate and realistic representations of the structure.

Correlated Datasets

L3Harris’ AMDBs are accurate and high-quality GIS datasets that can be used to efficiently supplement surface navigation in a wide variety of airport-related activities. AMDBs are compliant with multiple industry standards and are comprised of correlated TrueTerrain imagery, DTM elevation, and vectors that describe the spatial layout of an aerodrome.

  • Real world consistency allows users to familiarize themselves with the aerodrome
  • Can be used in ground-based operations management and on-board aircraft systems
  • Enhances safety and situational awareness

Detailed Vector Layers

  • AMDB Layers are derived from satellite imagery which has been georeferenced using survey ground control points. Key airport features are digitized from the georeferenced imagery, resulting in location-specific point, line, and polygon vector feature classes.
  • AMDB layers are organized into 5 categories related to their function within the aerodrome: Runways, Taxiways, Aprons, Vertical Structures, and Other Data.
  • Detailed attributes are added to the vector objects using image interpretation, publicly available airport diagrams, and customer provided data. This attribution provides additional information beyond the spatial location, allowing the user to have access to specific details relating to characteristics and function of the aerodrome features.

CLASSIFICATION


Material Classification

Advanced material classification extracted from all multispectral bands available, identifying the two dominant materials as well as the relative abundance of each material, for each pixel in the dataset.

Available at the same pixel resolutions and precisely correlated to our TrueTerrain imagery, the material classification dataset is ideal for creating various sensor views to accompany out-the-window views within the Simulation Image Generator.

Material classification products can be used to create night vision, IR, and radar visual databases, or for mapping high detail, geotypical textures with real-world accuracy.

Land Use/Land Cover

Imagery derived LULC layers represent how much of a region is covered by forest, wetlands, impervious surfaces, agriculture, and other land and water types.

  • 20-Class Correlated Multi-Resolution LULC data available in raster or vector formats
  • Compliant with Multi-Resolution Land Cover Characteristics (MRLC) Consortium defined data layers
