0 Replies and 4 Views Resize MODIS *.hdf file  4  0 Started by  Ellen Hi guys, I have a question about how to resize *.hdf files (the MODIS Level-2 products) to a fixed spatial resolution in IDL directly Now, I convert *.hdf file to *.dat file firstly using MCTK and then resize it. But it is relatively slow. Do you have any other better suggestions Thanks a lot in advance.

Although I have found a solution about this problem at '', the content in idlsendmail.php file doesn't show. So, who could tell me how to produce the *.php file, please Thank you very much. Ellen

3 Replies and 2975 Views Does IDL run on macOS Sierra?  2975  3 Started by  Laurent Mirioni The answer is YES but you have to go through some tuning steps. I did the following test on an iMac running macOS Sierra 10.12 (16A323) that never ran IDL before (=fresh install). 1- Install Quartz 2.7.9 (XQuartz-2.7.9.dmg). Make sure your security settings allow the install of this package. SUCCESS 2- Download Install_IDL85ENVI53SP1.pkg and install it (As for Quartz, make sure your security settings allow the install of this package). Follow the instructions. Uncheck E...

1 Replies and 16 Views text_orientation in surface plot  16  1 Started by  Harald von der Osten-Woldenburg Hi, using: s.axes&91;1&93;.text_orientation=50 in a surface-plot I tried to rotate ticknames, but the result is really funny: the tick names become diffus black, no character is visible. Trying this with font_size = 12. The same happens if I reduce this font_size. Is there another possibility to change the orientation of tick names Thanks a lot, Harry

1 Replies and 43 Views how to change position of nicknames in surface plot?  43  1 Started by  Harald von der Osten-Woldenburg I had to rotate a 3D surface plot, but now the ticknames of the y axis are hidden by the plot. I can not figure out how to move them on the other side of the axis. Moreover I would like to suppress entirely the z axis. Following the manual it should work with ZSTYLE=4, but IDL 8.7.1 tells me, that 4 would not be allowed... Thanks a lot for each small hint. Harry

2 Replies and 44 Views /compress with openw and openr on large files failing  44  2 Started by  Jonathan Joseph I am working with multi-channel data and generating floating point products that are on order 15k x 5k pixels by 61 channels. I can write and read this data uncompressed using openw and openr without issue. The files are about 18GB. However, in each of those 16 channels (which contain about 75 million pixels each) only about a million pixels have real data - so these files will compress dramatically using gzip (down to about 200MB). Unfortunately, using the /compress keyword to openw and op...

0 Replies and 19 Views Issues with TEK_COLOR in IDL  19  0 Started by  Ben Castellani Question: I am having a great deal of difficulty with the TEK_COLOR procedure It loads automatically in my previous version and is usable in coding. However, In the 8.7.1 version it loads only a gradient black to white scale. Using palette and clicking on the boxes appropriate for each of the 32 colors, it gives the appropriate numbers, but not the colors. Seems to work in the plot function but not the plot procedure. How do you set it up to run tek_color on initiation of IDL Solution...

0 Replies and 42 Views problems with STREAMLINE function?  42  0 Started by  Nathaniel Cunningham Can anyone provide details of how the STREAMLINE plotting function works The Help for it is quite non-descriptive, and the results of STREAMLINE are often rather confusing. 1) I assume that streamlines should be (as in physics, etc.) curves that are everywhere locally tangent to the vector field (u,v). However, this is often not the case for this function; consider for example streamlines that begin along the y-axis (x=0), in the code ;;----- begin code snippet-------------------- ;; set...

1 Replies and 65 Views IDL 8.6 can not search the Included path after update MAC to High Sierra  65  1 Started by  Xianghui Xue I have installed IDL 8.6 on MAC Sierra. Recently, I updated Mac Sierra to High Sierra, and then IDL 8.6 meets some problems. For example, I tried to include a new idl source code path (e.g. /username/idl_source_path) to IDL ( idlde -> preference -> path ), and compiled an idl program which calls idl codes in the path. However, the idl can not find the source code and shows 'Attempt to call undefined procedure: xxxx' '. Then, I rechecked the IDL preference, the path became uncom...

1 Replies and 41 Views Argmin  41  1 Started by  Hugo De Lemos Hi, I would like to calculate the argument of the minimum or Argmin of a set of multivariate points. Assuming I have a multidimensional array data = FLOAT&91;500, 300, 10&93; xaxis = 500 yaxiz = 300 observations = 10 Calculating argmin for a one-dimensional array could be done as follows: a = &91;0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8&93; argmin = SORT(MIN(a, DIMENSION = 1)) argmin = 0 How would this be ach...

0 Replies and 19765 Views automatically determine minor tick values?  19765  0 Started by  Brian Harker Yo, I'm plotting several sets of data that can have wildly different values between sets, and need a way to automatically determine the minor y-tick values, given the major tick values obtained via (in this case) YTICK_GET=yvals. I do not explicitly set the YMINOR=yminor keyword when plotting (in this case), so IDL determines the ticks for me (because of the data variability I cannot just use a static range). Is there a way to automatically determine the values of the minor y-ticks if I don'...

0 Replies and 19268 Views Can you render multiple datasets at the same time? Or multiple geometry types?  19268  0 Started by  Kalina Borkiewicz I am not yet a user of IDL. I am wondering if it can handle situations like this: 1) Can you render multiple datasets together Say if I have a simulation of the outer 1/3 of the sun, and a separate simulation of the inner 2/3 of the sun. Can I put them together, in the same 3D virtual space, and make one image out of the two datasets 2) And, separate question -- is it possible to show multiple types of geometry together Say, a volume, with embedded surface geometry For example, a volum...
